What is a lactic acid peel?

As the name suggests a lactic acid peel is derived from milk and is a fairly mild acid peel. A lactic acid peel has a reduced chance of an allergic reaction because it is a natural human metabolite which is why this is a fairly popular treatment.

How is a lactic peel applied?

As with any acid peel the skin is first thoroughly cleaned before the peel is applied, any residue makeup or facial oils will hinder skin penetration and overall effectiveness. The peel is then applied and left for a period of time to neutralise the skin and penetrate the pores and skin layers. Most people who have lactic peels experience some initial irritation on the skin and regular sessions are recommended to get used to longer periods of use as a longer session will increase effectiveness.

The skin may be a little red after a peel but this usually goes away fairly quickly.

Because a lactic acid peel is a mild chemical peel it can be safely used once or twice a week starting with short, low acidity applications working up the longer and stronger treatments.
